sometime in the distant past
Tuesday, May 31
"You have five minutes to report outside 6.01 classroom. Move!"
"Hahaha, riiiight," I thought to myself.
He started running across the parade ground.
Crap. He's serious. I squished the bags in my hand tightly against my chest and took off after him. You never arrive later than the person who gave you the timing, and he had got the head start. The ground was wet with rainwater, and I felt my shoe slide over the floor in one of my step.
"This isn't fair!" I yelled after him.
"I'm carrying a sling bag!"
As he pulled away to the left to take the open ground, I chose to steer on forward and run up the ramp, even though it was the longer route. Dry land was what I needed to run properly. In any case, if I was to overtake him at any point, taking the same route as him would diminish my chances greatly. Despite all my doubts, I reached the foot of the staircase before he did, eliciting an exclamation,
"Wah like that lah! Take a different route from me!"
I didn't stop - there was no time for apologies. Though my thighs burned with intense effort, I pounded my feet onto the floor with each step, propelling me up the flights of stairs two at a time. All this while still keeping the bags clasped in my hand from spilling out, and subconsciously looking out for stray millipedes to avoid crushing. I heard the sound of his breaths as he continued his climb from somewhere behind me.
"Too close for comfort," was all I could think.
As quickly as I'd began my ascend, I reached the top of the stairs. Though my legs threatened to drop right there, I pushed on till the lockers of 6.01 classroom. Before I could even catch my breath, he came into sight. I collected myself and stood at rapt attention, ready to report.
Then I couldn't take it. I burst out laughing. All the bags in my arm started to slip onto the floor.
"STILL CAN LAUGH!"
I held my breath and put on the most serious face I could muster.
Then we both finally couldn't take it and exploded into fits of laughter, and all the shirts in their plastic bags fell to the floor.
hahaha, it's been a really long time since we were participants of a camp, racing against our seniors to meet the timings and get there before they did. i can't say i wish i was back in those situations, but i do look back fondly on those experiences (: and as ben pointed out today, we'll be subject to it again in about 8 or 12 months time, except next time we'll be without seniors who genuinely care about us...
heh either way, thanks puppy for that crazy funny experience today XD you acting all serious and all... hahaha, so funny (: and i guess i can finally say i've been chased by a dog! :P hahahaha!
ah wells, back to ib (:
